Someone (relative)asked me if I LOVED Dubai and how I found it to be. I told her, its new and old, east and west. You know, exactly as your pictures *tell*. She got so angry, with me by saying that. She just wanted me to say it as picture 1.
No one can possibly believe an entire city can be cosmopolitan, chic and all modern (We dont live in sitcoms :p )- every city has its poverty infested area’s and Dubai is no exception to that.
Well, you know I live in London – both bits co-exist within miles of each in a patchwork of rich and poor that goes on for hundreds of square miles. Is it the same in Dubai?
There are def poor patches all over the UAE, but they are never shown and the emphasis is that they don’t exist. Such areas are found in the heart of the cities and are increasingly demolished to put up polished glass and steel buildings.
There is a lot of emphasis on ‘good looks’ so one can’t put up clothes in the balconies or you’d be fined heavily. One underwear hanging in your balcony can cost you up to Dh. 1000/-
In London you only have to go into a side alley of the glittering chique shopping stretts and you are in the middel of squalor.
That is, btw where the interesting shops are.
There are rules in the Netherlands about not hanging washing to dry, but that is because the snotty architects don’t want their ”pretty” buildings defaced by the evidence of people actually living there.
Ah, you are exposing them.
